Traditional attendance management methods, such as manual roll calls or proximity-based RFID cards, are increasingly inadequate for modern educational environments. These conventional approaches are not only time-consuming and disruptive to instructional flow, but they also lack real-time data synchronization, leading to administrative delays, data entry errors, and a significant lag between class conduct and record availability. To comprehensively address these multifaceted challenges, this project proposes the development of an automated face recognition attendance system.
The core architecture of the proposed system is structured as a modular pipeline comprising four primary components:
- a real-time video capture module utilizing standard IP or USB cameras; a high-fidelity face detection and alignment engine;
- a robust face recognition and embedding generation engine;
- a centralized backend database;
- an interactive web-based dashboard for data visualization and management.
By integrating MTCNN's advanced detection capabilities with the discriminative power of FaceNet's embeddings, the system ensures high accuracy and low false-positive rates even when processing multiple faces simultaneously in a single video frame. The backend course enrollment and student details while a user-friendly web-based dashboard provide faculty with intuitive tools to view, filter, sort, and export attendance data in common formats like CSV and PDF.
Ultimately, this project aims to significantly reduce administrative overhead, eliminate the pervasive issue of proxy attendance, and provide faculty with a frictionless, real-time prototype that demonstrates high accuracy, scalability, and resilience. The system's automated nature provides valuable data analytics, empowering institutions with actionable insights into student engagement.
